Your Complete Guide to Glasses & Contact Lenses at Project Eyecare Optometry

From finding the perfect pair of glasses to choosing the right contact lenses, Project Eyecare Optometry makes the process simple, supportive, and personalized. Whether you're updating your prescription, ordering contacts, or exploring specialty lenses, our goal is to help you see clearly and comfortably — with the guidance of an experienced team that truly cares.

Using Your Own Frames — What to Know Before You Bring Them In

Many patients prefer to reuse their own frames, and we’re happy to help as long as the frame is in good working condition. Our team will inspect your frame to ensure it’s safe for new lenses.

Important Details:

  • There is a $50 lab fee for patient-owned frames.
  • This fee covers lab maintenance and the extra handling required.
  • We are not liable for any breakage that may occur during the lens installation process.

Sometimes, it may be more cost-effective to purchase a new frame — and we’ll be honest with you about that, too.

How Long Do Lens-Only Orders Take?

If you're only ordering lenses (and keeping your existing frames):

  • Glasses lenses: typically 7–10 business days
  • Contact lenses: usually 3–5 business days (sometimes 5–7)

If you're a new patient and we don’t have your measurements on file yet (PD, segment height, etc.), we will need your frame in office before ordering your lenses.
Returning patients with measurements already on file can continue wearing their old glasses while the new lenses are being made.

How Our Opticians Help You Choose the Perfect Frames

Choosing the right pair of glasses is part science, part style — and our opticians excel at both.

We help patients choose frames based on:

  • Face shape
  • Pupillary distance & segmentation height
  • Prescription strength
  • Lifestyle (office work, sports, digital use, etc.)
  • Preferred colors & materials

For higher prescriptions, we may recommend high-index materials (like 1.74) to keep lenses thin and comfortable.

Why Contact Lens Fittings Must Be Updated Every Year

A common question we hear is:

“Why do I need a new fitting if nothing feels different?”

Here’s why:

  • Contact lens prescriptions are legally valid for one year nationwide.
  • Eye shape, corneal health, and lens fit can change without symptoms.
  • Contact lenses affect oxygen flow and corneal sensitivity — problems can develop silently.
  • We cannot (and legally must not) approve expired prescriptions.

Even if your lenses “feel fine,” your eyes still need annual monitoring for health and safety.

What’s Included in a Contact Lens Fitting?

During your fitting, you can expect:

  • Evaluation of corneal health
  • Assessment of lens fit and comfort
  • Updated prescription if needed
  • Trial lenses (when appropriate)
  • Solutions and a starter kit for reusable lenses
  • Training for new wearers on insertion, removal, and care

Our goal is to make sure your contacts feel great, fit properly, and keep your eyes healthy.

Specialty Contact Lenses We Offer

Project Eyecare Optometry fits a wide range of specialty lenses, including:

Soft Contacts

  • Spherical
  • Toric (for astigmatism)
  • Multifocal
  • Monovision

Hard & Specialty Lenses

  • RGP lenses
  • Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
  • Scleral lenses

Scleral lenses are especially helpful for conditions like keratoconus, while Ortho-K is often used in our myopia management program but can also be an option for adults.

Glasses vs. Online Ordering — Why In-Office Is More Accurate

While online ordering may seem convenient, it comes with risks.

Ordering in-office ensures:

  • Precise measurements (PD, segmentation height, fitting height)
  • Accurate lens recommendations (material, coatings, blue light options)
  • Access to warranties that online vendors often don’t offer
  • Correct prescription verification
  • A trained optician adjusting your frames to fit perfectly

For contact lenses, we offer an online ordering portal, but we strongly discourage ordering through sites like 1-800-Contacts because they often bypass prescription accuracy safeguards.

Care Tips for Glasses & Contact Lenses

Glasses Care

  • Never use alcohol, water, paper towels, tissues, or shirts to clean lenses
  • Use only proper lens cleaner + microfiber cloth
  • Visit us anytime for frame adjustments

Contact Lens Care

  • Never sleep in contact lenses
  • Never expose contacts to tap water
  • Replace lenses exactly as prescribed
  • Clean reusable contacts as directed
  • Throw away dailies after one use
  • Never reuse a lens that fell on the floor

Healthy habits = healthy eyes.
