A Parent’s Guide to Myopia Management & Vision Therapy at Project Eyecare Optometry

Myopia (nearsightedness) is increasing faster than ever — especially in children exposed to long hours of screen time. At Project Eyecare Optometry, we take a proactive, personalized approach to protecting children’s vision for the long term through a dedicated Myopia Management Program and a full Vision Therapy Program led by doctors who specialize in pediatric and neuro-optometric care.
Our goal is simple:
Help children see clearly today while preserving their eye health for tomorrow.

Meet Bright Eyes Explorers — Our Myopia Management Program

Formerly partnered with Treehouse Eyes, Project Eyecare Optometry now offers its own independent program:
Bright Eyes Explorers (BE)
Complete with structured follow-ups, advanced technology, and highly personalized treatment plans.
The Three Main Treatment Options We Offer
We tailor treatment based on age, prescription, eye shape, and rate of progression:

1. Atropine Therapy
Low-dose atropine drops to slow elongation of the eye.

2. Soft Multifocal Contacts
Specifically:

  • MiSight®
  • NaturalVue®

Designed to control myopia progression while giving children clear daytime vision.

3. Orthokeratology (Ortho-K)
A specialty nighttime lens that gently reshapes the cornea while sleeping.
Children wake up seeing clearly all day without glasses or contacts.
Adults may also choose Ortho-K for vision correction convenience.
RGP lenses may also be used depending on the case.

Why Our Myopia Program Stands Out

Parents often tell us they’ve never experienced care this detailed. That’s intentional. Our doctors are meticulous and hands-on, with a strong belief that consistency is the key to slowing myopia progression.
Here’s what makes our program different:
Personalized treatment plans
No two children receive the same approach — everything is tailored to their unique eyes.
More follow-up care than traditional offices
We monitor closely at:

  • 1 day
  • 1 week
  • 1 month
  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • Annual check-ins

This ensures lenses fit well, vision is stable, and progression is slowing as expected.

Advanced Technology You Won’t Find Everywhere
We use specialized diagnostic tools to track myopia precisely:
Lenstar — axial length measurement
Shows how quickly the eye is elongating (the root cause of myopia progression).
Regular eyes are more spherical; myopic eyes become elongated like a football.
Keratograph Topographer
Maps the corneal surface with high accuracy — essential for Ortho-K and RGP fittings.
Together, these tools allow us to detect progression early and adjust treatment immediately.

What to Expect at a Myopia Management Consultation

Step 1 — Comprehensive baseline exam
We evaluate prescription changes, eye health, corneal shape, and axial length.

Step 2 — Education for parents & patients
We explain each treatment option in simple terms — including expected outcomes and responsibilities.

Step 3 — Custom treatment plan
Doctor and parent decide together which option best suits the child.

Step 4 — Begin treatment + follow-up schedule
Parents receive full instructions, supplies (if applicable), and a timeline for return visits.
Everything is designed to make the experience clear, supportive, and stress-free.

Vision Therapy at Project Eyecare Optometry

While myopia management focuses on slowing prescription changes, Vision Therapy is designed to strengthen how the eyes work together — especially for children struggling with tracking, focusing, or binocular alignment.
Our Vision Therapy program is led by:

Dr. Kano — pediatric & neuro-optometry specialist
He evaluates and treats:

  • Eye teaming issues
  • Convergence insufficiency
  • Tracking and focusing problems
  • Reading-related visual challenges

Who Benefits Most From Vision Therapy?

Parents often come to us after noticing their child:

  • Loses their place while reading
  • Avoids near-work
  • Rubs or blinks frequently
  • Struggles with comprehension
  • Has headaches during schoolwork

Adults may benefit as well — especially after concussions or neurological conditions.

Step One: The Vision Therapy Evaluation (VTE)

This is a specialty diagnostic appointment required before entering the program.
Cost: Just $49
(Previously $350 — reduced intentionally to improve access.)
During the VTE:

  • We assess visual skills
  • Confirm whether vision therapy is needed
  • Recommend other interventions if appropriate (e.g., prism glasses, Neurolens)

If vision therapy is recommended, our coordinators walk families through program structure, scheduling, and pricing.

Prism Glasses & Neurolens Options

Some patients may benefit from prism or Neurolens® technology to relieve:

  • Eye strain
  • Headaches
  • Digital fatigue

Neurolens is out-of-pocket only, while scleral lenses may be covered if deemed medically necessary.

Insurance Coverage & Cost Transparency

Myopia Management
Pricing varies widely based on treatment type, follow-up frequency, and supplies.
It is personalized — so we do not post pricing online.

Vision Therapy
Costs depend on:

  • Number of units
  • Program length
  • Specific activities or tools needed

Therefore, pricing is discussed only after the VTE.
We focus on giving families clarity, accuracy, and no surprises.

How We Track Progress Over Time

We monitor improvements through:

  • Axial length changes
  • Prescription stability
  • Corneal topography
  • Symptom improvements
  • Doctor observation & parent feedback

In both programs, progress is measured and shared transparently — so parents feel confident every step of the way.

Why We Offer These Programs

Simply put:
We believe early intervention changes lives.
Myopia is more than blurry vision — high myopia increases the risk of retinal detachment, glaucoma, and other long-term complications. Vision therapy can transform a child’s ability to read, learn, and thrive.
Our doctors are deeply committed to helping kids reach their full visual potential — not just for today, but for life.

Protect Your Child’s Vision for the Future

Whether your child is becoming more nearsighted or struggling with focusing and reading, early support can make all the difference.
